Start with a harmless example

Record the Pocket Paste version, macOS version, source app and destination app. Test with a short sentence in TextEdit. Change one thing at a time so you can tell which step helped.

The popup will not open

Open it from the menu bar. If that works, review Settings → Shortcuts and any other utility using the same combination. The default Control + Option + Z may have been customised. Avoid launching multiple copies from Downloads, Applications and development builds at the same time.

Nothing new appears in history

Check Clipboard History is enabled, capture is not paused, the source app is not excluded, and a secure field is not active. Copy plain text from a normal document, then clear active search and filter conditions in Pocket Paste.

An app may offer Copy in its interface without placing the expected data representation on the system clipboard.

A clip is visible but direct paste fails

Focus a writable destination field. Check Accessibility for the installed Pocket Paste copy. Try Copy from the popup, return to the destination and press Command + V manually.

If manual paste works, the issue is likely related to direct insertion, focus or app permissions. If it also fails, inspect the item type and what the destination accepts.

A snippet does not expand

Check Snippets is enabled, automatic expansion is enabled, its folder is active, the abbreviation matches, and you have used the configured trigger. Look for overlapping abbreviations. Try the popup’s Snippets tab to distinguish retrieval from automatic expansion.

Formatting or images look different

Try pasting into TextEdit and the actual destination. Apps support different combinations of plain text, rich text, inline images and attachments. Use the plain-text view or a simpler template to find a compatible representation.

OCR misses text

Try a sharp image with large printed text. Check OCR is enabled. Compare the extracted result with the source; recognition is not guaranteed to preserve every character, table or reading order.

Sync seems delayed

Verify a recent harmless text item first. Check the Apple account, network, sync status, enabled categories and asset limits. Keep an independent backup before changing imports or clearing data.

Storage is growing

Review the history limit, automatic removal, screenshot backups, image optimisation and backup retention. Unlimited history can grow over time. Inspect each category before deleting anything; do not remove Library files manually as a first troubleshooting step.

• What you expected and what happened.
• The shortest steps that reproduce it.
• Source and destination app names.
• A screenshot using non-private demonstration content, if useful.

Never include your license key, passwords or a full clipboard database in a public report.
