Backup and iCloud Sync

Keep recovery copies and decide which data should follow you between devices.

Backup and sync solve different problems

A backup preserves a recovery point. Sync propagates selected changes between devices. A deletion may also propagate through sync, so iCloud Sync is not a replacement for independent backups.

Configure automatic backups

  1. Open Settings → Sync and find Automatic backups.
  2. Choose a schedule and backup location.
  3. Review how many recent copies will be retained.
  4. Create a backup and verify that a dated file appears in the selected folder.

Choose a location with enough space and a recovery plan that survives a problem with your Mac. Do not assume that a path on the same disk protects against disk failure.

Export a portable copy

Use Export in the data import/export area. Review the categories included in the export and the available password protection before saving. Keep the exported file and any required password somewhere you can recover them.

A backup can contain private clipboard text, images and snippets. Treat it as private data.

Restore carefully

Create a current backup before importing or restoring another one. Read the app’s confirmation and category-selection options, then restore only the intended data. Verify a few known items afterwards rather than assuming a successful file selection means the restore has finished.

Enable optional iCloud Sync

  1. Sign into the intended Apple account on each supported device.
  2. Open Pocket Paste’s Sync settings and review the iCloud section.
  3. Select the data categories and asset/size limits you want to synchronise.
  4. Enable sync and wait for its status to settle.
  5. Verify with one harmless new item on a second device.

Selected data is sent through Apple’s CloudKit. Network availability, iCloud availability and asset policies can delay or limit what arrives. Do not assume that every large image or local file becomes available everywhere.

If something does not arrive

Check the Apple account, enabled categories, network, sync status, history limits and image/file asset policy. Compare one recent text item first; it is easier to diagnose than a large attachment.

Avoid repeatedly deleting and reimporting your library while diagnosing sync. Preserve a backup and contact support with status details, without including private content.
