Sequential and segment paste

Two related workflows

Sequential paste works through a queue of copied items. Segment paste splits one text item by configured separators and pastes its parts in sequence. Choose based on whether your values are separate clips or one block of text.

Paste copied items in sequence

1. Activate sequential paste with your configured shortcut. The default is Control + Option + Q. A new session starts with an empty queue and the indicator ⌘C to add an item.
2. Copy a small set of harmless values while the session is active. Items copied before activation are not added to this queue.
3. Place the insertion point in a test document or the first destination field.
4. Review the current item indicator before pasting.
5. Use Command + V for the newest-first direction, or Command + Shift + V for the oldest-first direction, as shown in the current shortcut settings.
6. Move to the next destination field and continue.

Test order with values such as First, Second, Third before using a real form. A queue is useful only when its order matches your destination.

Split a single clip

1. Copy a simple block such as Alex | Design | Friday.
2. Open Settings → Clipboard → Split & Paste and review the separators.
3. Match the separator exactly. Spaces matter: | and | are different tokens.
4. In the popup, use the clip’s segment-paste action or the configured double-tap modifier while pointing to the text item.
5. Paste one part, inspect the next-item indicator, and continue.

When multiple separators are configured, their order determines priority. Text-normalisation settings can also affect the resulting segments.

Stop and change tasks

Press Escape or press the sequential-paste activation shortcut again to cancel the active session. Check that its indicator has disappeared, then verify the clipboard contains the item you intend to paste before resuming normal work.

Protected fields and authentication codes

Secure-input protection can alter paste behaviour. The app also has an optional 2FA-code recognition setting for sequential and segment paste. Similar-looking text can match; review that setting and the displayed value carefully.

Do not use real credentials when learning the workflow. Check the exact field and the indicated value before inserting sensitive data.

If the order or result is wrong

Stop the session. Check copy order, direction, separators, whitespace, normalisation and whether another app changed the clipboard. Restart with three labelled test values to isolate the problem.
